Canterbury Woods Elementary School, Fairfax County Public Schools student Kristen King learned American Sign Language to help students who are deaf or hard of hearing catch the right bus. At McNair Upper Elementary School, Saanvi Vangapalli kept her school's most crowded bus route running safely with calm, clear leadership. Both earned AAAās Safety Patroller of the Year honor for turning care into action every school day.
Now off to middle school, they're hoping to continue to support their school communities in new ways.

Heat Advisory from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Friday, July 25
Due to the heat advisory in effect for Fairfax County, all outdoor activities scheduled on Fairfax County public schoolsā fields and courts from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Friday, July 25, are canceled, including:
Recess.
Co-curricular or extracurricular activities.
Team practices.
Recreation programs and community use by outside groups not affiliated with FCPS.
Employees whose job function requires outdoor work (e.g., landscaping, groundskeeping, warehousing, general facilities, etc.) are to complete the remainder of their workday indoors. Alternate work activities that can be completed include required training, indoor maintenance, etc.
Extreme heat resources, including the locations of cooling centers and safety tips, can be found on the Fairfax County website.
In addition, the FCPS Summer Food Service Program continues at locations across the county, providing meals to all children at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis. Locations are listed on the FCPS website.

In just days, they'll bring SIX: TEEN EDITION to life with hours of daily rehearsals and total dedication. This new offering is part of the IFTA - Summer Institute for the Arts FCPS enrichment program for students in grades 6-11.

This summer, Kings Glen Elementary students are engineering the future through the CodeUP Summer Program, thanks to a Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) grant.
One cool project? Solar ovens! Students designed and build their own ovens using pizza boxes, foil, and plastic wrap. Not only do they get hands-on with heat transfer, insulation, and light reflection, but they also cook nachos and mini pizzas using the power of the sun! š š®
